Wedding dresses - should I risk having it made by a seamstress or buy one?

We're not getting married in a church %26amp; I don't want a large ballgown. It will be at a restaurant %26amp; the ceremony will take place on the outside patio on a Lake in Southern California. I want it very breezy %26amp; tropical. My flowers are orchids, dahlias, oriental lilies. Here's a pic of the location:

This dress, I fell in LOVE with but can't afford (around 8k) so considering have it made for me but it has so much detail. Too risky? Opinions or advice on having it made? Is it too "much" for the location?

Or I was thinking of going w/ David's Bridal. I tried this one on %26amp; it's way prettier in person. If you click on alternate view, you can see the back. It's really pretty. What do you think? Too plain?

I actually like the second better than the first.

I also like these, they seem tropical, and they are less expensive then the David's bridal:

(I put the links to House of brides so you can see the prices)

Reply:go with the davids bridal.. that why your not spending a load of money for a dress you will wear once, and if your like me, i only had a son. So i gave my dress away a few months ago. You can get a beautiful dress for $100. use the money you save for your future, you will need it... trust me.

Or you can even rent a beautiful gown.

Best wishes for a long happy life together.

And your wedding day will be such a whirlwind, no one will remember what you are wearing sad but true.
Reply:davids bridal. Congratulations
Reply:Go with the DB one...out of the two you've posted here, the DB one is much more attractive. I can't believe the other has a price tag of 8k.
Reply:My mom was a pro seamstress and I think as long as they have a license and speak English it's just as good as getting it off the rack! Then you can add or remove certain parts if you want. Only down side is you have to go to a lot more fittings!
Reply:well I would definitely say go with the davids bridal one. the first dress is aweful...sorry...I know you like it, but it that see through? and whats with the bow. looks a bit slutty for a wedding if you ask me and definitely not worth the money. the second one is simple and pretty for the type of wedding your having.
Reply:the davids link doesnt work.... but as long as the seamstress is well known and good at what she does i would go for t.. dont settal for anything less

edit: the davids one is pretty buy i would go with the one you LOVE
Reply:First of all Congrats on the wedding

I think it might be to much for the location

For a dress with so much detail you need a location with less detail and even it you got it made you are still looking at over $1000 due to detail! That does not mean your dress cant have detail example http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns... just that the dress you love has too much!

That 2nd dress you showed is nice also what you could do is get a dress made that has some detail but not as much as the first but more then the 2nd say like the halter part of this dress with the bottom half of the other!

http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns... or take parts of the dress you love and get it made in a simple design!
Reply:I just love your wedding venue and the designer dress. If I were you I would scan the web for bridal sites. I have seen destination wedding gowns that look like that gown. I wish I could remember. But to start, go with maggie sottero.com, alfredangelo.com, rinadimontella.com, verawang.com, amykuschel.com.,(saw something like your gown) dessy.com, bridalchalet.com (excellent). I wouldn't have a dressmaker make that dress. It is too intricate and you won't be satisfied. There are designers of quality who make gowns for less than $8K. So start searching before you hire a dressmaker.
Reply:I like the first one, and think you might knock quite a huge chunk off the 8k price tag by getting a seamstress to make it for you. If you do that, try on a random dress with a similar silhouette first to see if the end result will suit your body type.

The second dress...well, it just doesn't have enough detail (in my humble opinion) and reminds me more of a prom dress.

Your location is GORGEOUS, by the way!
Reply:Ahh, finally a dress that someone has posted that I like! The designer dress is stunning! Not sure that a seamstress will be able to properly source the fabrics though, at least that's the problem that I had when I tried to use a Carolina Herrera as "inspiration." No harm in asking a trusted and reputable seamstress her opinion. I've also tried the David's Bridal gown on and it's beautiful. But how many other women have worn it? That question alone made my decision.
Reply:Check out a place called Alfred Angelo's they're a chain. So they're all over. They're about the same cost as Davids Bridal, but they have more of a selection. I noticed when I was shopping for my dress that Davids Bridal dresses all seemed the same style. Alfred Angelo's has a lot more different styles to choose from
